According to initial reports and information from the emergency response teams in Cao Bang, Quang Ninh, Thanh Hoa, and Dak Lak provinces regarding the damage caused by heavy rain, thunderstorms, and tornadoes from May 15-17, 2026, the details are as follows:
- Regarding injuries: 01 person was injured when a tree fell on them (Dak Lak).
- Regarding houses: 1 house collapsed (Dak Lak); 27 houses had their roofs blown off or were damaged (1 in Thanh Hoa, 26 in Dak Lak); 187 houses were flooded under 1 meter in Cao Bang (water has now receded); some houses were flooded in Quang Ninh (water has now receded); 1 house was relocated due to landslide risk (Quang Ninh).
- Regarding agriculture: 419.6 hectares of rice and other crops were flooded and damaged (Cao Bang 251.04 ha; Quang Ninh 135.5 ha; Thanh Hoa 4.16 ha; Dak Lak 28.9 ha).
- Regarding education: 1 school was flooded (Cao Bang).
- Regarding irrigation: 200m of canals and ditches are silted up (Cao Bang).
- Regarding boats: 02 boats sank in Thanh Hoa (due to storms breaking anchor ropes, causing the boats to drift far out to sea and sink; authorities and local people have now salvaged them and brought them closer to shore).
- Regarding transportation: 28 locations on National Highway 4A (Cao Bang) and 2 locations on National Highway 18C (Quang Ninh) experienced landslides, but the roads are now open; 7 locations on rural roads in Cao Bang and 1 location on Provincial Road 326 in Quang Ninh were damaged by landslides, and temporary repairs have been made to allow vehicles to pass; localized flooding occurred on streets in Quang Ninh, but the water has now receded.
- Other damage: 01 passenger car damaged by flood (Cao Bang); 05 power poles broken or fallen; 01 transformer station damaged (Dak Lak).
Estimated damage: 10.2 billion VND (Cao Bang 6.7 billion VND; Dak Lak 3.5 billion VND; damage estimates for Quang Ninh and Thanh Hoa provinces are not yet available).
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities mobilized forces and resources to assist people in overcoming the damage; organized patrols and placed warning signs at flooded areas; cleared traffic routes and continued to compile and statistically record the damage.

- Regarding casualties: 1 person injured (Dak Lak).
- Regarding homes: 1 house collapsed (Dak Lak); 26 houses had their roofs blown off or were damaged (Dak Lak); 114 houses were flooded (Cao Bang), but the water has now receded.
- Regarding agriculture: 3.4 hectares of passion fruit, 24 hectares of rice, 1 hectare of corn, and 0.5 hectares of cucumber.
- Regarding infrastructure: 05 power poles were broken or collapsed, and 01 transformer station was damaged.
- Regarding traffic: Several points on National Highway 4A were flooded or affected by landslides, causing traffic congestion; however, the road is now largely open (Cao Bang).
- Other property damage: damage to 01 car (Cao Bang) and some other property.
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities mobilized forces to assist people in overcoming the damage and restoring their lives as soon as possible.
#2 According to a quick report and information from the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control in Quang Tri, Da Nang, and Quang Ngai provinces and cities, from May 13-14, 2026, lightning strikes caused 4 deaths (Quang Tri: 1 person: Ms. Ha Thi Hoe, born in 1982, residing in Quang Ninh commune; Da Nang: 1 person: Ms. Nguyen Thi Xuan, born in 1975, residing in Que Phuoc commune; Quang Ngai: 2 people: Ms. Pham Thi An, born in 1983, residing in Ba Vinh commune; Mr. Dinh Van Nhieu, born in 1997, residing in Son Linh commune) and 1 injury (Da Nang).
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities organized visits to offer condolences, encouragement, and support to the families of the victims.
