Description

Heavy rain continues to affect Sumatra and Java in recent days, causing floods and triggering landslides. According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 13 February, 363 families have been affected by floods and 306 houses have been damaged in Lima Puluh Kota Regency (West Sumatra Province). Widespread landslides occurred in West Bandung Regency (West Java) where several families have been displaced and 80 houses damaged. The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is conducting the emergency response, including the evacuation and rescue of those affected. For the next 24 hours, heavy rain and localised thunderstorms are forecast across the affected provinces.

Heavy rainfall has been affecting several parts of Sumatra and Java Islands (Indonesia), and southern Malaysia, since 28-29 January, causing floods and landslides. According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), as of 31 January, the number of deaths has increased to 7 in Central Tapanuli Regency (North Sumatra Province) while 856 people have been displaced and more than 200 houses flooded in Bondowoso Regency (East Java Province). The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) is conducting the emergency activities and provided two refugee tents, one public kitchen and one health service post in Bondowoso. In Malaysia, more than 200 people were temporarily evacuated across Kluang, Johor Baru, Pontian, and Kulai Districts ( Johor State). Heavy rain with thunderstorms is forecast over most of Sumatra and Java Islands as well as over southern Malaysia on 1-2 February. Heavy rain has been affecting North Sumatra Province since 28 January, causing floods. According to the Indonesian National Board for Disaster Management (BNPB), 6 people died, 3 are still missing and 22 have been injured in Central Tapanuli Regency due to the overflow of the Aek Sirahar river. At least 700 families have been affected and preventively evacuated. The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of Central Tapanuli Regency has declared a 7-day state of emergency. Rescue and emergency teams have been deployed by the authorities to help the affected people. For the next 24 hours, more heavy rain is forecast over North and West Sumatra Provinces.

Flood waters continue to submerge six districts in Bandung Regency (West Java) since 23 January.

The Indonesian authorities for disaster management report that as of 28 January, approximately 60,000 people are affected by floods, and more than 3,880 were forced to evacuate in several districts across Western Java.

Material losses and damage caused by floods include 13,881 houses, 23 schools, 79 places of worship, 18 public facilities and 278 hectares of rice fields.

Orange warnings for rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds have been issued for 18-30 January. Moderate to heavy rainfall is forecast over western, and south-eastern areas of West Java on 28-29 January.

JAKARTA - The Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of South Sulawesi Province reported several disasters related to high-intensity rain and whirlwinds on Sunday (12/1). This extreme weather phenomenon is in accordance with BMKG forecasts, namely the potential for heavy rain in the South Sulawesi region with the status 'Alert.'

On Sunday (12/1) flooding occurred in Buludua Hamlet, Balusu Village, Barru Regency, South Sulawesi. Rain with high intensity flushed from 00.00 Wita to 10.30 Wita. The incident triggered an overflow of the local river. Around 121 HHs have been affected by flooding in this village.

On the same day (12/1) floods and whirlwinds occurred in three sub-districts in Barru Regency, South Sulawesi. The three affected districts are Balusu, Soppeng Riaja and Mallusetasi. The incident resulted in houses being flooded and a number of infrastructure damaged. In addition, the flow of trans-Sulawesi traffic is closely monitored. This flooding caused damage to three houses of residents in the category of heavily damaged and damage to village road infrastructure in the Oring region, Balusu District, one suspension bridge in Kiru-Kiru Village, Soppeng Riaja District, and beach embankments in S. Binangae Village and Ajakkang Market in Balusu District .

Local BPBD reported 1 person died due to flooding.

Flooding also occurred in the City of Parepare, South Sulawesi on Sunday (12/1). BPBD of South Sulawesi Province reported that heavy rain fell throughout the City of Parepare, causing inundation at several points with varying water levels. However, inundation soon subsided and community activities gradually returned to normal. On the previous day (11/1) puddles had occurred in the City area, which was triggered by rain accompanied by strong winds.

Some of the events above show threats that are triggered by hydrometeorological phenomena moving to the regions of central and eastern Indonesia. BMKG has also given early warnings to a number of areas with the status 'Alert' to 'Alert.' Therefore, the BNPB appealed to the central and eastern regions BPBD to be on alert, one of which was to monitor the early warning given by BMKG so that they could continue early warning to the community.

SOLOK - Floods soaked at least 13 villages in Solok City, West Sumatra, Monday (17/2). The flood was triggered by high rainfall that flushed Solok City and Solok Regency in Batang Lembang and Batang Gawan at 21.00 WIB. The data of the affected villages include; KTK Kelurahan, Kelurahan IX Korong, Kelurahan IV Suku, Kelurahan Simp Rumbio, Kelurahan Sinapa, Kelurahan Aro IV Korong, Kelurahan Tanah Garam in Lubuk Sikarah Subdistrict. Then Nan Balimo Village, PPA Village, Tanjung Paku Village, Laiang Village, Kampung Jawa Village, Koto Panjang Village in Tanjung Harapan Subdistrict. Data collected by the Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) of the Solok City Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), as many as 320 families / 1251 people were affected by the flood. Solok City BPBD together with the joint team has conducted further evacuation and data collection to calculate losses and other data needed. NORTH PASER LOAN - The flood that struck the Bukit Subur village and Riko Village, Penajam District, Penajam Paser Utara Regency (PPU), East Kalimantan has receded, as reported by the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) of North Penajam Paser Regency, Tuesday (18 / 2) at 23.50 West Indonesia Time. Previously reported floods with a water level of up to 1.9 meters due to high rainfall and tides have flooded the settlements that inhabited 104 families / 336 people in Bukit Subur Village and 11 families / 43 people in Riko Village RT 04. The flooding was also reportedly cut off the bridge of the residents walkway because the water current eroded the foundation buffer so that the two- and four-wheeled vehicles could not cross. Until now, residents are assisted by a joint team from BPBD PPU, District Team, PPU Police Sector Team, Danramil Penajam, Village / Kelurahan Officers, PP Satpol Team, Bhabinkamtibmas, Babinsa and Tagana to work together to clean up the remaining mud and material that is flooded in the homes of residents. Description

Due to the monsoon season and heavy rainfall since 31 December 2019, the Greater Jakarta area was affected by massive floods and localised landslides reported. As of 6 January 2020, a total of 293 sub-districts in 74 districts of 3 provinces, i.e. Jakarta, West Java, and Banten, are flooded as from 1 January 2020. BNPB has been leading national coordination with other national agencies to support the local disaster management authority (BPBD). BNPB has mobilised support to the affected people by dispatching relief items, deploying personnel, disseminating information, and establishing evacuation centres. As the situation improves, the number of displaced people in the three affected provinces are generally decreased over time. In-country ASEAN Emergency Response and Assessment Team (ASEAN-ERAT) Indonesia is mobilised to reinforce BNPB in providing technical assistance in the management of evacuation site and provision of minimum services at the Jati Asih evacuation site of BNPB.
