Philippines, Mount Mayon Phreatomagmatic Eruption

This event is under monitoring = = Update as of 3 April 2018 = 1) PHIVOLCS maintains Alert Level 2, meaning the volcano is at moderate level of unrest. Sudden explosions, lava collapses, pyroclastics density currents can still occur and threaten areas in the upper to middle slopes of Mayon. 2) A total of 23,786 families / 91,055 people in 61 Barangays of Albay Province are still affected. 3) As of 3 April 208, DSWD reported that all IDPs from the initial 96 evacuation centers have been decamped. 4) A total of PHP 418,450,648.95 worth of assistance was provided to affected families; of which, 100,694,318.72 came from DSWD, PHP 56,388,107.86 came from LGUs, PHP 57,197,545.08 came from NGOs, and PHP 204,170,677.29 came from other humanitarian assistance providers. 5) A total of PHP 61,973,000 cash-for-work assistance have been provided to affected families. = Update as of 29 March 2018 = 1) PHIVOLCS has downgraded Mayon Volcano status to Alert Level 2, meaning the volcano is at moderate level of unrest. Sudden explosions, lava collapses, pyroclastics density currents can still occur and threaten areas in the upper to middle slopes of Mayon. 2) A total of 23,786 families / 91,055 people in 61 Barangays of Albay Province are still affected. 3) A total of 487 families / 1,930 persons are currently in 5 evacuation centers. A decrease of 3,086 persons from previous weeks, with 4 evacuation centers have stopped operations. 4) A total PHP 480,423,648.95 (USD 9.2 million) worth of assistance has been provided to affected families by DSWD, local government units and NGOs (increased by around PHP 64 million from Week 12). = Update as of 19 March 2018 = 1) PHIVOLCS maintains Alert Level 3 for Mayon Volcano with 6 km radius of Permanent Dangers Zone. This means there is a decreased likelihood of hazardous explosive eruption to occurs. 2) A total of 23,786 families / 91,056 people in 61 Barangays of Albay Province are still affected. 3) A total of 1,300 families / 5,016 persons are currently in 9 evacuation centers; while 330 families / 1,412 persons are staying with families/friends. 4) In specific to social welfare assistance, a total PHP 415,892,522.86 (USD 7.94 million) worth of assistance has been provided to affected families by DSWD, local government units and NGOs (increased by around PHP 9 million from Week 11). 5) DSWD also provided PHP 61,973,000 (USD 1.1 million) Cash-for-Work assistance for affected families. = Update as of 12 March 2018 = 1) PHIVOLCS maintains Alert Level 3 for Mayon Volcano with 6 km radius of Permanent Dangers Zone. This means there is a decreased likelihood of hazardous explosive eruption to occurs. 2) A total of 23,784 families / 91,052 people in 61 Barangays of Albay Province are still affected (decreased by 85 people from Week 10). 3) A total of 1,299 families / 5,013 persons are currently in 9 evacuation centers; while 330 families / 1,412 persons are staying with families/friends. 4) In specific to social welfare assistance, a total PHP 409,398,439.95 (USD 7.8 million) worth of assistance has been provided to affected families by DSWD, local government units and NGOs. Most of the assistance in Week 11 were in the form of family food packs and sleeping kits. 5) DSWD also provided PHP 61,973,000 (USD 1.1 million) Cash-for-Work assistance for affected families. = Update as of 26 February 2018 = 1) Mayon’s activity was characterized by weak lava fountaining, lava effusion and degassing from the summit crater 2) PHIVOLCS maintains Alert Level 4 and 8 km radius of Permanent Danger Zone 3) A total of 23,526 families / 90,148 people in 61 Barangays in Albay Province are still affected (increased by 269 people from Week 07) 4) A total of 16,106 families or 61,886 persons are currently taking temporary shelter in 57 evacuation center (decreased by 211 people from Week 07) 5) A total of PHP 431,706,810.83 worth of assistance has been provided to affected families in Albay Province by DSWD, DOH, OCD, DepEd, DOLE, DENR, PRC, LGUs, I/NGOs, DA, UNFPA, Office of the President and PSCO. = Update as of 18 February 2018 = 1) PHIVOLCS-DOST maintained Alert Level 4 and 8 km permanent danger zone of Mount Mayon. 2) A total of 23,425 families or 89,879 persons in 61 barangays in Albay are affected by the phreatomagmatic eruption of Mount Mayon. 3) A total of 16,376 families or 62,097 persons are currently taking temporary shelter in 57 evacuation centers. 3) A total of PHP 288,384,654.97 worth of assistance has been provided to affected families; of which, PHP 43,860,684.72 came from DSWD, PHP 49,614,791.36 came from LGUs, PHP 33,693,074.44 came from NGOs, and PHP 161,216,104.45 came from other humanitarian assistance providers. 4) A total of 65 schools, 72166 students were affected within the 6-7 km of permanent danger zone. 5) A total of PHP 166,073,749 loss in agriculture has been reported. = Update as of 11 February 2018 = 1) PHIVOLCS-DOST maintained Alert Level 4 remains in effect over Mayon Volcano. The public is strongly advised to be vigilant and desist from entering the eight (8) kilometer-radius danger zone, and to be additionally vigilant against pyroclastic density currents, lahars and sediment-laden stream flows along channels draining the edifice. 2) 23,054 families or 88,528 persons in 61 barangays in Albay are affected by the phreatomagmatic eruption of Mount Mayon. 3) 15,091 families or 56,517 persons are currently taking temporary shelter in 53 evacuation centers 4) 3,113 families or 12,876 persons are currently staying with relatives/friends in Camalig, Daraga, Guinobatan, Malilipot, and Santo Domingo 5) PHP 262,517,237.77 worth of assistance has been provided to affected families; of which, PHP 38,784,960.72 came from DSWD, PHP 48,812,425.36 came from LGUs, PHP 20,918,127.44 came from NGOs, and PHP 154,001,724.25 came from other humanitarian assistance providers including NGAs = Update as of 28 January 2018 = 1) PHIVOLCS-DOST maintains Alert Level 4 for Mount Mayon (hazardous eruption imminent) and the 8-km Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) remains effective 2) Lava fountain, tremors and rockfall were observed on 28 Jan 2018 3) Province of Albay, Region V was declared under the State of Calamity thru Resolution No. 00670-2018 4) 89,109 persons affected / 22,885 families 5) 74 evacuation centers: Sheltering 69,290 persons / 18,255 families. 6) 11,946 persons / 2,822 families are staying with families/friends outside of evacuation centers 7) 49 schools inside the PDZ are affected 8) Cost of damage, agriculture, 189 million PHP (approx. 3.7 million USD) 9) Government assistance worth of 54.6 million PHP (10.7 million USD). DOH provided 3 million PHP of health assistance & advise usage of personal protective equipment (PPE) for high risk individual = Updates as of 17 January 2018 = 1) PHIVOLCS-DOST maintains Alert Level 3 for Mount Mayon. Permanent Danger Zone (PDZ) is maintained at 6 km radius, with an extended 7 km Extended Danger Zone towards southern direction. 2) DILG and NDRRMC reported a total of 3904 families were preemptively evacuated in Region V. 3) DSWD and NDRRMC reported a total of 9,480 families / 38,939 persons were affected in 36 barangays in 9 cities/municipalities in Province of Albay and currently staying in designated 30 evacuation centers. 4) Class suspensions are active in 6 municipalities in Albay province. 5) A total of PHP 5.5 million worth of assistance was provided by DSWD and local government to affected families in Province of Albay. = Updates as of 14 January 2018 = For the past 24 hours on 13-14 January 2018, Mayon Volcano in Albay Province has noticeably increased its unrest. After three (3) phreatic (steam-driven) eruptions and 158 rockfall events between 4:21 PM 13 January and 7:25 PM 14 January, Mayon’s summit crater is now exhibiting bright crater glow that signifies the growth of a new lava dome and beginnings of lava flow towards the southern slopes. In view thereof, PHIVOLCS-DOST is now raising the alert status of Mayon Volcano from Alert Level 2 to Alert Level 3.
