Description

Issued on 23 May 2026 at 4PM, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms

may have brought flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains

due to the trough of a Low-Pressure Area (LPA) in Mindanao, Eastern Visayas,

Central Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Palawan.

On the same day at around 7PM, continuous heavy rains brought by the trough of

the LPA caused waterways to overflow, resulting in flooding in several barangays in

Kabacan, North Cotabato.

Further, portions of Zamboanga City also experienced heavy rains and flooding due

to trough of LPA, resulting in the displacement of over 200 families.

In response, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through

Field Offices (FOs) IX and XII, remains in close coordination with the affected Local

Government Units (LGUs) to monitor the situation and ensure the provision of

necessary assistance to affected families and individuals.

Meanwhile, DSWD FO IX has already provided relief assistance to address the

immediate needs of the affected population.
