Heavy rains recorded up to 121 mm in 24 hours period, which showered Western Visayas region in Philippines from 22 to 24 September 2017 has resulted in major flooding. Philippines National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), reported in a Flood Advisory of 23 September that” the heavy rain in Negros Occidental was likely to increase rivers in the area, in particular the Malogo, Sicaba, Grande, Himocaan, Danao, Upper Tyabanan, Sipalay and Lower Ilog”. The most affected location was in the city of Bacolod, in Negros Occidental Province. Over 8,000 people in 14 barangays of Bacolod city were affected with over 100 houses were damaged and 92 destroyed. In addition, some flooding was also reported in Sipalay city, Bago city, Talisay city, La Carlota city, Hinobaan, Murcia, Binalbagan and Pontevedre of Negros Occidental Province.
