Description
Over the past months of rainfall deficits, meteorological and agricultural drought has caused water supply shortage that have affected the daily life and agriculture in the Philippines.
Note: Figures are subject to change due to ongoing validation and verification.
A total of 577,775 families or 2,464,388 persons were affected. A total of 13 cities/municipalities were affected by water supply shortage:
-Six (6) barangays in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental have been experiencing shortage in water supply for drinking and agricultural use since December 2023.
-Some areas in Zamboanga City have been experiencing water shortage since 08 January 2024.
-Since last quarter of 2023, the rivers, wells, and streams which are the primary and alternative water sources in some areas in nine (9) municipalities in Basilan have been
affected by El Nino. This resulted in water shortage.
-Solsona, Ilocos Norte experienced water shortage in water supply since 27 March 2024.
A total of 206 cities/municipalities were declared under the State of Calamity.
As of 5:00 PM, 02 May 2024, a total of PhP 5,901,992,137 estimated cost of damage and losses to agriculture has been reported. Please refer to Department of Agriculture Bulletin No. 09 on the Effects of El Niño for more details:

In Region VI, six (6) barangays in Himamaylan have been experiencing shortage in water supply for drinking and agricultural use since December 2023.
