Description
On 27 September 2024, 2:00 AM, The Low Pressure Area east of Batanes has developed into Tropical Depression
“JULIAN”. Meanwhile, cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms were experienced in Ilocos Norte, Apayao,
Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, and Isabela.
At 11:00 AM, “JULIAN” remained almost stationary over the Philippine Sea East of Batanes. It brought moderate to
heavy rains over Cagayan.
On 28 September 2024, 05:00 AM, “JULIAN” maintained its strength while decelerating southward over the Philippine
Sea. Heavy to intense rains were forecasted over Babuyan Islands, while moderate to heavy rains over Batanes and
mainland Cagayan.
At 11:00 AM, “JULIAN” intensified into a Tropical Storm. Heavy to intense rains were forecasted over Babuyan Islands,
while moderate to heavy rains are forecasted over Batanes, mainland Cagayan, and Ilocos Norte.
On 29 September 2024, 05:00 AM, “JULIAN” intensified into a Severe Tropical Storm.
At 11:00 AM, “JULIAN” further intensified over the Philippine Sea east of Cagayan.
At 1:00 PM, the center of the eye of Typhoon JULIAN was estimated at 275 km east of Calayan, Cagayan (19.1°N,
124.1°E) with maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 135 km/h, and central pressure
of 975 hPa.
At 2:00 PM, “JULIAN” intensified into a Typhoon.
At 5:00 PM, “JULIAN” maintained its strength while moving northwestward over the Philippine Sea East of Cagayan.
Meanwhile, intense to torrential rains were forecasted over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte, while heavy to
intense rains over Mainland Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, and Abra. Further, moderate to heavy rains were forecasted over
Apayao, La Union, Mt. Province, Benguet, Pangasinan, Zambales, and Bataan.
At 7:00 PM, the center of the eye of Typhoon JULIAN was estimated at 190 km East Northeast of Calayan, Cagayan or
150 km East Southeast of Basco, Batanes (19.7°N, 123.2°E) with maximum sustained winds of 140 km/h near the
center, gustiness of up to 170 km/h, and central pressure of 965 hPa.
At 8:00 PM, “JULIAN” further intensified as it moved closer to Batanes.
At 11:00 PM, “JULIAN” further intensified as it continues to threaten Batanes and Babuyan Islands. Meanwhile, intense
to torrential rains were forecasted over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte while heavy to intense rains over
Mainland Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Apayao, Abra, and Benguet. Further, moderate to heavy rains were forecasted
over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region.
On 30 September 2024, 01:00 AM, the center of the eye of Typhoon JULIAN was estimated at 95 km southeast of Basco,
Batanes (19.8°N, 122.6°E) with maximum sustained winds of 155 km/h near the center, gustiness of up to 190 km/h, and
central pressure of 955 hPa.
At 02:00 AM, Typhoon “JULIAN” continues to rapidly intensify over the Balintang Channel. Meanwhile, intense to
torrential rains are forecasted over Batanes, Babuyan Islands, and Ilocos Norte, while heavy to intense rains are
forecasted over Mainland Cagayan, Ilocos Sur, La Union, Apayao, Abra, and Benguet. Further, moderate to heavy rains
are forecasted over Pangasinan, Zambales, Bataan, and the rest of Cordillera Administrative Region.
At 5:00 AM, Batanes and northeastern Babuyan Islands are now experiencing violent winds as “JULIAN" continues to
move over the Balintang Channel.
At 11:00 PM, “JULIAN” maintains its strength as it continues to move westward over the Luzon Strait.
On 01 October 2024, 05:00 AM, "JULIAN" intensifies into a Super Typhoon and is now moving slowly.
