Description

Based on DDPM report published on National News Bureau of Thailand on June 14 2012: the central and lower northern regions, Mr Wiboon said over 6,000 residents in Sukhothai, Phitsanulok, Prachin Buri and Chai Nat provinces have been hit by flash floods and forest-runoffs. Previously Mr Wiboon Sanguanpong, DDPM Director-General, also said that the flood situation is widespread in the southern region, affecting over 130,000 residents. Flash floods have struck Ranong, Chumphon, Surat Thani, Krabi, Phang Nga and Nakhon Si Thammarat provinces, with villages along the Tapi River still severely flooded. The floods have damaged a number of houses, crops, public roads and bridges. However, improvements have been reported in some parts of Ranong, Chumphon and Phang Nga, with rehabilitation works underway. Based on Pattaya mail Flooding in Thailand‘ northern provinces continues due to heavy rain and the overflowing Yom River. The Yom River has overflowed into a number of villages and damaged about 4,000 acres of farmland in Sukhothai. Overnight heavy rain forced local residents in Pakpra subdistrict in the provincial seat to evacuate to temporary shelter in tents on higher ground beside a roadway Tuesday night. Based on Bangkok post: Almost 100 people in Sukhothai‘ Muang district were forced to evacuate their homes Tuesday following several breaches in the Yom River dyke. Parts of neighbouring Phitsanulok province have also been hit by floods after Yom River water levels rose rapidly due to heavy downpours in the North. Overflow from two canals _ the Klong Klam and Khlong Ket _ in Bang Rakam district, which are linked to the river, has flooded about 2,000 rai of land.
