Tropical Cyclone PEIPAH (Philippines Local Name: KIKO) and Southwest Monsoon
On 29 August 2025, 2:00 PM, a Low Pressure area (LPA 08h) was monitored outside the Philippine Area of
Responsibility (PAR) and was unlikely to develop into a tropical depression.
On 30 August 2025, 8:00 AM, LPA 08h was monitored outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) and was still
unlikely to develop into a tropical depression. Meanwhile, heavy rainfall due to the Southwest Monsoon was expected
from 31 August to 01 September with 50–100 mm forecast in Antique, Iloilo, Guimaras, and Negros Occidental, and from
01 September to 02 September with 50–100 mm forecast in Occidental Mindoro, Palawan, and Antique; rainfall amounts
may be higher in mountainous and elevated areas, and impacts in some locations may be worsened by significant
antecedent rainfall.
On 31 August 2025, 2:00 AM, LPA 08i was monitored inside the PAR and had a low potential of developing into a tropical
depression. At 8:00 AM, LPA 08h dissipated.
On 01 September 2025, 2:00 PM, the LPA 08i was monitored inside the PAR and still had a low potential of developing
into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
On 02 September 2025, 2:00 AM, the LPA 08i is still being monitored inside the PAR and had a low potential of
developing into a tropical depression. At 8:00 PM, LPA 08i is being monitored inside the PAR and has a medium potential
of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours.
At 11:00 AM, the Trough of the LPA 08i and the Southwest Monsoon were less likely to bring significant rainfall over
Aurora and Palawan, respectively. However, scattered rains and thunderstorms were still expected over Metro Manila,
Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas, Ifugao, Benguet Camarines Norte, and
Camarines Sur.
On 03 September 2025, at 8:00 AM, the LPA inside PAR (08i) developed into Tropical Depression "KIKO", which then
exited PAR at 2:00 PM. TD "KIKO" continues to move northwestward as it approaches southern Japan.
