Description
On 22 October 2012, a tropical depression, named OFEL, was formed in the east of Sorigao Del Sure area. Its strength and intensity has been observed intensively until 25 October 2012, it made landfall over the southwestern part of Masbate and Sibuyan Island, and moved forward to Mindoro and west Philippine Sea. On 26 October 2012, it moved away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR). Based on the NDRRMC report no.17, this incident has caused 27 death, 6 missing and 19 injured. The affected population was 25,307 families or 116,406 persons in 10 cities of region IV-A, IV-B, V, VII, VIII, IX, X and XII. 605 persons remained stay in 3 evacuation centers. The incident has also destroyed 236 houses and damaged 2,558 houses. Moreover, 6 roads were not passable in region II, III, IV-A, IV-B and V. Additionally, 15 cities in provinces of Batangas, Cavite and Laguna were still flooded. Regions IV-A, IV-B, IX and X declared under a State of Calamity. Based on the report, the cost assistance was around 201.000 USD and the cost of damages was estimated to be 3.75 million USD. To date, NDRRMC together with the relevant institutions were still conducting the emergency response.
