Eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki in East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province

➢ Chronology:
● An eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki occurred on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at 22:56 WITA with an observed ash column height of ± 8000 m above the peak (± 9584 m above sea level). The ash column was observed to be gray to black in color with thick intensity towards the southwest and west. This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.6 mm and a duration of 669 seconds.
● An eruption of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki occurred on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 00:10 WITA with an observed ash column height of ± 2500 m above the peak (± 4084 m above sea level). The ash column was observed to be gray with thick intensity towards the west. This eruption was recorded on a seismograph with a maximum amplitude of 47.3 mm and a duration of 64 seconds. ● Based on PRESS RELEASE Number: 43/KM.05/BGL/2025 and the results of a comprehensive analysis and evaluation of visual and instrumental monitoring, it shows that visual and seismic activity at Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has increased, so that the activity level of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has been increased from Level III (ALERT) to IV (WAS) on March 20, 2025
● Based on the Natural Disaster Declaration Letter, Number BPBD.300.2/48.4/Bid.KL/II/2025 which states that there has been an increase in the status of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki from Level III (Alert) to Level IV (Warning) at 03:00 WITA
● Visual observations for the period 13-20 March 2025, show that the volcanic activity of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki has increased quite significantly, with an average height of 1000 to 2500 meters of eruption column.
● Visual observations on March 20-21, 2025, showed that the volcanic activity of Mt. Lewotobi Laki-laki decreased slightly. ➢ Location: (2 Sub-districts / 6 Villages)

➢ Recommendations: ● Communities around Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki and visitors/tourists should not carry out any activities within a radius of 6 km from the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki and the Southwest - North - Northeast sectors as far as 7 km ● Communities around Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki and visitors/tourists should not carry out any activities within a radius of 7 km and 8 km in the Southwest and Northeast sectors of the eruption center of Mount Lewotobi Laki-Laki. ● The public should remain calm and follow the direction of the local government and not believe issues with unclear sources. ● Communities around Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki are aware of the potential for rain-induced lava floods in rivers that originate at the peak of Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki if there is heavy rain, especially in the areas of Dulipali, Padang Pasir, Nobo, Klatanlo, Hokeng Jaya, Boru, Nawakote. ● Communities affected by ash rain from Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki wear masks/nose-mouth covers to avoid the dangers of volcanic ash on the respiratory system. ● The Regional Government continues to coordinate with the Mount Lewotobi Laki-laki Observation Post in Pululera Village, Wulanggitang District, East Flores Regency, East Nusa Tenggara Province or the Center for Volcanology and Geological Disaster Mitigation, Geological Agency in Bandung.
➢ Efforts: BNPB ● Provide assistance in the construction of temporary housing (HUNTARA) ● Conduct a coordination meeting of the East Flores Regency Government together with FORKOPIMDA, BNPB, ATR/BPN, Affected Sub-district Heads and other related agencies, regarding the Evaluation of Temporary Housing Development and Acceleration of Temporary Housing with the following results: ● The East Flores Regional Government is ready to conduct socialization for residents who have not received information ● The Housing Waiting Fund has been reopened for independent refugees. ● Organize residents who received the Housing Waiting Fund who have returned to the Disaster-Prone Area. ● The delegation of authority from the Provincial Government to the East Flores Regency Government will be followed up immediately in supporting the acceleration of the construction of permanent housing in the designated locations.
