➢ Chronology:
The incident was triggered by the operation of five excavators that were conducting loading activities, which caused ground vibrations and led to public concern. The vibration effects reoccurred the following day in the late afternoon, accompanied by signs of ground movement. The initial ground movement occurred on Thursday, 29 January 2026, at 17:48 WITA. The affected area is a former swamp that had been compacted with soil and used for the construction of several buildings as well as iron ore storage and steel production activities.
