Description

According to preliminary reports from the Departments of Agriculture and Environment of Lai Chau, Dien Bien, Lao Cai, Son La, Tuyen Quang, and Thai Nguyen provinces, from the afternoon of July 8th to July 9th, heavy rain and landslides caused the following damage:



- Regarding casualties: 01 person was injured due to a rockslide hitting a car (Son La).



- Regarding houses: 4 houses collapsed (Lai Chau 1; Dien Bien 1; Son La 2); 141 houses were damaged (Lai Chau 1; Dien Bien 102; Son La 38); 45 houses were relocated due to landslide risk (Dien Bien 40; Son La 5); 36 houses were affected by flooding and landslides (Lai Chau 2; Lao Cai 11; Son La 11; Tuyen Quang 3; Thai Nguyen 9).



- Regarding agriculture: 243.03 hectares of rice, vegetables, and other crops were flooded and damaged (Lai Chau 0.89 ha; Dien Bien 57.17 ha; Lao Cai 36.02 ha; Son La 12.22 ha; Tuyen Quang 31.73 ha; Thai Nguyen 105 ha).



- Regarding livestock: 24 head of cattle (23 in Dien Bien; 1 in Son La) and 350 poultry died or were swept away (150 in Dien Bien; 200 in Thai Nguyen).



- Regarding transportation: 17 locations on National Highways 6, 4H, 12, and 32, and 75 locations on provincial roads (Lai Chau 4; Dien Bien 40; Lao Cai 16; Son La 15) experienced landslides and flooding, causing traffic congestion.



- Regarding irrigation: 137m of canals and ditches were damaged (127m in Dien Bien, 10m in Tuyen Quang).



Estimated damage: 14.99 billion VND (Dien Bien 8 billion VND; Lao Cai 1.34 billion VND; Son La 2.45 billion VND; Tuyen Quang 2 billion VND; Thai Nguyen 1.2 billion VND); Lai Chau no data available yet.



Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities organized rescue efforts for the injured, mobilized forces and resources to address landslides affecting roads, and assisted people in overcoming the damage and quickly restoring their lives to normalcy.
