Viet Nam, Landslides in Lai Chau and Dien Bien

According to a preliminary report from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lai Chau and Dien Bien provinces, heavy rains and landslides on July 7-8 caused the following damage:
- Regarding housing: 3 houses collapsed (Lai Chau), 24 houses damaged by landslides (18 in Lai Chau; 6 in Dien Bien); 8 houses affected (5 in Lai Chau, 3 in Dien Bien).
- Regarding agriculture: 40.5 hectares of rice and crops were damaged (Lai Chau); 17 livestock died (Lai Chau); 0.76 hectares of fish ponds were swept away (Lai Chau);
- Regarding transportation: National Highway 279 (Dien Bien), National Highway 4D (Lai Chau), and several provincial roads, inter-commune and inter-village roads in Dien Bien and Lai Chau have been damaged by landslides.
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities mobilized forces and resources to address landslides affecting roads and assist people in overcoming the damage and quickly stabilizing their lives.
