JAKARTA - The BNPB Operations Control Center (Pusdalops) informed 11 residents of Tarakan City, North Kalimantan Province, that they had died from landslides. Three others were reported injured after landslides occurred in the early hours of Monday (28/9), around 01.30 local time. BNPB data as of 11.35 WIB recorded that residents died in two sub-districts, namely North Tarakan and Central Tarakan. The number of victims who died (MD) was 7 people and 3 injured in North Tarakan District, while MD 4 people were in Central Tarakan. The affected areas are in Juanta Permai Village, North Tarakan and two villages in Central Tarakan, namely Juanta Kerikil and Selumit Pantai. This incident was triggered by high intensity rain on Sunday (27/9) in the Tarakan region. Apart from casualties, this disaster affected 19 housing units. BNPB continues to monitor the development of emergency handling by BPBD City of Tarakan and BPBD of North Kalimantan Province. The BPBD Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) undertakes emergency response efforts, such as evacuating residents and rapid assessments, as well as coordinating with related agencies. Meanwhile, the BPBD of North Kalimantan Province also participated in coordinating with the BPBD of Tarakan City regarding the distribution of aid to affected victims. Based on information from the BPBD of Tarakan City, the latest weather conditions on Monday (28/9), at 11.00 WIB, rain with moderate to high intensity at the disaster site. During the transition period and before the rainy season, the community is urged to remain vigilant and alert. Prevention and preparedness at the family and community level are elements to stay safe amidst the threat of hydrometeorological hazards.
