Description
Hundreds of houses in Cianjur regency of West Java Province, Indonesia, were damaged by a landslide on Sunday, 1 October 2017. Intense rainfall and soil structure have been the two factors triggering the landslide. National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) reported that 2,400 people have been affected in Waringinsari village of Takokak district, with 1,300 of them evacuated to public buildings due to damaged houses. BNPB recorded that 138 houses were heavily damaged, 103 moderately damaged and 139 lightly damaged. Landslide also destroyed 3 school buildings, lightly damaged 14 mosques, 3 irrigation networks were cut off and 5 spots of regional road have been affected. Cianjur Regent and Cianjur disaster management agency (BPBD Cianjur) have stated that the emergency response period to the landslide will be activated for the period of 1-7 October 2017. BNPB, Indonesian Army, Indonesian Police, West Java BPBD, Basarnas (National Search and Rescue Agency), Red Cross and other volunteer groups are present on the ground to support BPBD Cianjur.
