Floods in Kab. Melawi Prov. West Kalimantan Update: Wedneday, September 16, 2020 at 18:25 WIB JAKARTA - Floods that have occurred since Sunday (13/9) in Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan, have resulted in 720 people being displaced at 10 refugee points. Previously, the Melawi District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) had reported that in the last week floods also occurred on Sunday (6/9) and Friday (11/9). Referring to the data released by the BNPB Pusdalops on Tuesday (16/9) at 15.15 WIB, the flood disaster expanded to 10 sub-districts and affected 22,072 families / 88,288 people, but also affected 20,460 houses and 196 public facilities. The ten sub-districts are, South Pinoh District, Sayan District, Sokan District, Nanga Pingo District, North Pinoh District, West Tanah Pinoh District, Tanah Pinoh District, Menukung District, Ella Hilir District and Belimbing Hulu District. BPBD Rapid Reaction Team (TRC) Kab. Melawi has coordinated the TNI / Polri and local village officials to carry out the assessment. Logistical assistance began to be distributed by PMI Kab. Melawi as many as 190 packages of foodstuffs in North Pinoh sub-district. BPBD Prov. West Kalimantan distributed 50 logistics packages to Sayan sub-district. Meanwhile, according to the weather forecast for Dasarian II from the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the potential for rain with medium to high intensity will still occur in Kab. Melawi. Responding to the high potential, BNPB appealed to the public to be aware of the potential for rain accompanied by lightning and to be prepared to anticipate the impact of other natural phenomena, such as floods, flash floods, landslides and strong winds. In addition, BNPB requested that regional policy makers be able to make disaster mitigation efforts and immediately take necessary actions in relation to disaster risk reduction. Almost all districts are currently affected by flooding. Update: 6 Sep 2020 Cause: High intensity rainfall caused flash flood in 5 villages and landslide in mekar pelita on Sunday 6 Sep 2020 01.00 WIB. Impact: - Pintas Village : 150 families/ 412 affected people. - Bora Village : 300 families/ 1251 affected people. - Kasai Village: 120 families/375 affected people. - Mekar Pelita Village: 215 families/721 affected people * One casualty (15), A villager from Bora, Sayan subdistrict died because of hitting power pole which fell due to landslide (mekar Pelita) 02.00 wib (6/9).
