JAKARTA - According to Ms. Rita Rosita S., Head of BNPB Public Relations, water distribution is carried out by the local BPBD for handling drought in several regions in three provinces. The BNPB Emergency Operation Center report per Sunday (23/6), at 08.00 WIB said that several regions in the provinces of Central Java and East Java, as well as the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY), experienced drought. This phenomenon resulted in 100,230 residents being exposed to the effects of drought, with details in the DIY Region totaling 85,000 (24,166 households), Central Java 14,253 (3,984 households), and East Java 977 (287 households). This disaster event in DIY occurred in 57 villages in the Gunung Kidul Regency area. The Gunung Kidul District Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) has distributed water to Girisubo, Rongkop, Tepus and Paliyan areas with a total of around 900 thousand liters of water. Drought also hit two sub-districts, Kewungetan and Patimuan, in Cilacap Regency, Central Java. The district BPBD has distributed 24 clean water tanks with a capacity of 5,000 liters in Ujung Manik Village, Sidammukti Village, Gendiwung Hamlet, and Langenkepuh Hamlet. Meanwhile, the drought in East Java was observed in Trosono Village, Parang Subdistrict, Magetan Regency. The drought reported last Monday (6/17) was anticipated by BPB Magetan Regency with the distribution of clean water. Based on an analysis from the BNPB‘ Center for Disaster Alert Situation (Pastigana), the forecast for the start of the dry season in 2019 will generally occur in May, June and July with a percentage of around 83%.
