Main : Tornadoes- Describe_the_incident = The Super Cyclone “Goro” Category 5 with a wind speed of above 160 mph per hour made landfall in Rakhine State at the early hours of 20 April 2020. It immediately caused direct damages to coastal townships in Rakhine State including the capital Sittwe, and coastal townships in Mrauk-U district and Kyaukpyu district,
Description
The Super Cyclone also caused flooding due to storm surges, heavy rainfall, flash floods in low-lying areas. It may also cause landslides in Arakan Mountain area.
In total there are 2.029 million people in Rakhine State (Dept. of Population), and by factoring in the pre-disaster risk assessment, there are roughly 1.161 million people affected by the cyclone (Dept of Disaster Management, DDM).
By initial assessment, the DDM can confirm at total of 146 fatalities, 1,1461 people injured, more than 52,000 people is expected to be displaced / around 11,800 families. These numbers are changing by hours and will be confirmed once Myanmar Disaster Response Team validate the situation.
