Description

A tropical cyclone forecast has been issued by Joint Typhoon Warning Center (JTWC) on November 16, 2019, 03:00:00 GMT. Tropical Storm - Kalmaegi, is located in the NW Pacific Ocean with maximum sustained winds of 65 km/h (40 mph), and wind gusts up to 83 km/h (52 mph). According to this forecast (#14), the cyclone is headed West at about 4 km/h (2 mph), and is expected to remain at this strength over the next 24 hours. It is cautioned, however, that the storm‘ actual position may shift significantly over the next few days. Based on the current forecast (the storm‘ center and path), Tropical Storm - Kalmaegi is within 382 km (237 miles) from Philippines, and the center is expected to make landfall within the next 108 hours, along the shores of/near Isabela, with sustained winds of about 102 km/h (63 mph). For the extended forecast, models do not show a concentrated population exposed to moderate or severe damaging winds (within the extended forecast area) at this time. All shorelines in the path of the storm are exposed to potential storm surge, and inland areas within the proximity of the storm are exposed to potential flooding. According to PAGASA, TC KALMAEGI (locally named "RAMON") remains almost stationary over the Philippines Sea, east of Northern Luzon. Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains may be experienced over the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela, Bicol Region, Samar Provinces and Romblon. Light to moderate with occasional heavy rains may be experienced over the eastern portions of Cagayan and Isabela. Light to moderate with intermittent heavy rains over Apayao, Northern Aurora and the rest of Isabela and Cagayan. Residents in the aforementioned areas, especially those living in areas identified to be highly or very highly susceptible to flooding and rain-induced landslides, are advised to take precautionary measures, coordinate with local disaster risk reduction and management offices, and continue monitoring for updates, especially the Thunderstorm or Rainfall Advisories and Heavy Rainfall Warnings to be issued by PAGASA Regional Services Divisions. Gusty conditions associated with the Northeast Monsoon may still be experienced today over Northern Luzon, Aurora, and Bicol Region, especially in coastal and mountainous areas. Sea travel is risky, especially for small sea crafts, over the seaboards of areas under TCWS, the seaboards of Northern Luzon, and the eastern seaboards of Central and Southern Luzon due to prevailing or forecast rough sea conditions.
