This event is under monitoring, data and information updated daily during official emergency response of 16-22 December 2017 = = Update as of 22 December 2017 = Given each city/regency assessment on the ground, some affected areas decided to extend official emergency response and others have ended and shift to recovery. Municipalities extending emergency response period for another 1 week: Tasikmalaya city Municipalities alleviating emergency response period: Tasikmalaya regency West Java Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD West Java) reported in total the earthquake caused damage to 9288 houses across the province: 5730 houses light damage, 2417 houses medium damage and 1141 heavily damage. = Initial reports = AHA Centre Disaster Monitoring and Response System (DMRS) triggered “WARNING” alert for a Magnitude 6.9 Earthquake on 15-Dec-2017 23:47:57 (UTC +7) with epicenter located 7.75 South, 108.01 East, at a depth of 105 Km (BMKG). Indonesian BMKG initially activated tsunami warning (ALERT for 2 municipalities & ADVISORY for 8 municipalities) in south of West Java, Central Java and Yogyakarta, which was “CANCELLED” on 16-Dec-2017 02:26 (UTC +7) and no tsunami occurs. = Update as of 18 December 2017 = 1) BNPB has updated the number of damage houses. A total of 3,290 houses are damaged, including 528 heavily damage, 700 moderate damage and 2,062 light damage. 2) BNPB has disbursed on-call budget up to IDR 250 million for cities/regencies declaring emergency response. 3) Emergency response period is still effective for 16-22 December 2017. = Update as of 17 December 2017 = National Disaster Management Authority (BNPB) reported the following: 1. There are now 4 recorded casualties, 11 people who have been seriously injured, and 25 people slightly injured. There has been an increase in the recorded number of damaged houses to 2,935 in West Java, Central Java and Yogyakarta, with West Java as the most affected province. Latest data shows 451 heavily damaged houses, 579 medium damaged house and 1,905 slightly damaged house. In terms of a geographical breakdown in Tasikmalaya District there are 1,362 houses damaged (192 heavily damaged, 76 medium damaged, and 1,094 slightly damaged). In Ciamis there are 759 houses damaged (117 heavily damaged, 239 medium damaged, and 403 slightly damaged). In Pangandaran District there are 320 houses damaged (60 heavily damaged, 75 medium damaged and 185 slightly damaged). Also damaged are 46 schools/madrasah (Islamic schools), 38 buildings for religious activities, 9 offices, and 4 hospitals and community health centres. There are approximately 200 people who are temporarily displaced from their homes in Pamarican Sub-District, Ciamis District. 2. The earthquake did not damage vital public facilities such as roads, bridges, electricity, drinking water and other facilities. Data compilation is still continuing with a likelihood that the number of damaged buildings will continue to increase. 3. There four most affected areas: Tasikmalaya City, Tasikmalaya, Ciamis District and Pangandaran districts, are the closest areas to the epicentre of the earthquake, with recorded intensity around V-VI MMI. The head of districts/mayors of those four areas have already issued orders confirming emergency response status for 7 days starting 16/12/2017 to 22/12/2017, which may be extended based on the situation at the field. Head of BNPB led the coordination meeting with the heads of affected districts/cities, BPBD, Ministry of Social Affairs and other government officials in Tasikmalaya and Ciamis. Four priorities are provision of logistics, repair of damaged residential areas, release of funds for immediate response operations and rehabilitation of public infrastructure and facilities. 4. BNPB will provide logistics to districts/cities that have already declared emergency response. BNPB has handed over money from the Ready-to-Use fund of IDR 250 million to those areas to support operations. For rehabilitation of damaged houses the funding will come from the BNPB Stimulant Fund, based on valid verification “by name by address” and a decree from the head of local government, so as to ensure accountability and transparency. 5. BPBDs, TNI, Polri, Basarnas, Ministry of Health, local government offices, Tagana, PMI, volunteers, NGOs and the local community continue to provide emergency response services to the affected people. Current needs are for shelter, tents, volunteers to clean the debris, food, psychosocial support, material to renovate damaged houses and personnel to help renovating/building the damaged house.
