Description

According to a quick report from the provinces of Lai Chau, Lao Cai, Quang Ninh, and Thanh Hoa, heavy rain accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning from April 22nd to the morning of April 23rd, 2026, caused the following damage:



- Regarding casualties: 1 person died due to a lightning strike (Quang Ninh).



- Regarding homes: 1 house collapsed (Lai Chau); 191 houses were damaged or had their roofs blown off (Lao Cai 105, Lai Chau 83, Thanh Hoa 3).



- Regarding agriculture: 0.54 hectares of rice and vegetables were damaged (0.04 hectares in Lao Cai; 0.5 hectares in Lai Chau).



- Regarding education: 7 schools were damaged or had their roofs blown off (2 in Lao Cai, 5 in Lai Chau).



- Regarding other infrastructure: 01 radio station and 01 transformer station were damaged (Lao Cai); 03 power poles were broken and collapsed (Lao Cai 01, Lai Chau 02).



Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities organized visits to comfort and encourage the families of the victims; mobilized forces to assist people in overcoming the consequences and stabilizing their lives as soon as possible.

Landslides in Phu Tho
According to the quick report No. 116/BC-CCTL&TNN dated April 22, 2026, from the Irrigation and Water Resources Sub-Department of Phu Tho province, on April 21, a riverbank subsidence and landslide occurred in the residential area outside the riverbank corresponding to K64+150 of the left bank of the Thao River, in Group 1A, Phu Ha area, Phong Chau ward, Phu Tho province. The landslide affected approximately 150 meters in length, directly impacting 11 households, injuring one person (during the relocation of property), and posing a risk to other households in the area and threatening the safety of the dike. Immediately after the disaster occurred, the local authorities mobilized forces to assist in evacuating and relocating residents from the affected area; conducted an inspection and assessment of the cause of the incident; and simultaneously cordoned off and posted warning signs in the dangerous area, closely monitoring the landslide developments.
