According to a quick report of the Standing Office of the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention and Control in the provinces of Lao Cai, Yen Bai, Ha Giang, Cao Bang, Bac Kan, Tuyen Quang, Phu Tho, Thai Nguyen and Quang Ninh, rain accompanied by thunderstorms, tornadoes and lightning occurred during the night of April 30 and early morning May 1 caused the following damage:
- Regarding people: 1 person died due to lightning strike (Mr. Me Van Than, born in 1979, Suoi Khoang residential group, Son Thinh town, Van Chan district, Yen Bai province).
- Regarding housing: 2,081 houses were damaged and had their roofs blown off, of which: 02 houses collapsed, 86 houses were seriously damaged and 1,993 houses had their roofs blown off (Lao Cai 278 houses, Yen Bai 245 houses, Bac Kan 280 houses, Phu Tho 52 houses, Cao Bang 35 houses, Tuyen Quang 678 houses, Ha Giang 256 houses, Thai Nguyen 167 houses, Quang Ninh 02 houses).
- Regarding agriculture: 1,248 hectares of rice, crops, and planted forests were affected and damaged.
- Regarding livestock: 56 cattle and 600 poultry died.
- Regarding infrastructure: 08 schools and 19 cultural buildings were damaged and their roofs were blown off.
- Other damage: 65 broken electric poles, 103 auxiliary structures, damaged barns and a number of other damages.
After the natural disaster occurred, the local government visited the families of the dead and mobilized forces to help people clean, sanitize, and repair their homes to quickly stabilize their lives.
