According to quick reports from the provinces of Lao Cai, Lai Chau, Dien Bien, and Son La, heavy rains, flash floods, and landslides from July 15-17, 2026 caused the following damage:
- Casualties: 1 death, 5 missing persons, and 2 injured (Lai Chau)
- Regarding housing: 20 houses collapsed (17 in Lai Chau; 3 in Son La); 113 houses were damaged (88 in Lao Cai; 2 in Lai Chau; 13 in Dien Bien; 10 in Son La); 42 houses required emergency relocation (26 in Lai Chau; 16 in Son La); 46 houses affected by flooding and landslides (29 in Lai Chau; 17 in Dien Bien).
- Regarding agriculture: 238.82 hectares of rice and other crops were damaged (Lao Cai 65.51 ha; Lai Chau 101.44 ha; Dien Bien 31.67 ha; Son La 40.2 ha).
- Regarding livestock: 25 head of cattle and 45 head of poultry were lost.
- Regarding transportation: Landslides at numerous points caused traffic congestion on national highways (QL4H, QL12, QL32, QL279) and provincial roads (DT 127, 128, 129, 133, 133B, 134, 135) in Lai Chau; 32 locations on DT 109 in Son La; in Dien Bien (QL 12, 279, DT 143); and congestion on inter-village and inter-commune roads.
- Regarding electricity: In Lai Chau province, approximately 1,373 customers are still without power.
Immediately after the natural disaster occurred, local authorities mobilized forces and resources to address landslides affecting roads and assist people in overcoming the consequences; they also compiled statistics and assessed the damage
