Description

On 10 October 2025 at 9:43 AM, an earthquake occurred at 07.22°N, 126.97°E – 43 km north 87° east Manay, Davao Oriental with a depth of focus of 23 km. It was tectonic in origin and recorded a highest intensity of VI, experienced in the Provinces of Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao Occidental, Davao Oriental, Cotabato, Sarangani, South Cotabato, and Surigao del Norte. Damage and aftershocks are expected.



Subsequently, a Tsunami Warning was issued by DOST-PHIVOLCS. The first tsunami waves were forecasted to arrive between 09:43 AM and 11:43 AM and may continue for several hours. Forced evacuation were implemented in the residents in low-lying and coastal areas following a PHIVOLCS advisory about the possible tsunami warning. At 1:43 PM, October 10, 2025, DOST-PHIVOLCS cancelled all Tsunami Warnings issued for this event. The Sea Level Monitoring Station for Tsunami Detection have detacted a tsunami wave of around 30 centimeters at 10:20 am.



Another, Magnitude 6.8 earthquake occured at 07.07°N, 126.90°E , 043 km south 68° east of Manay, Davao Oriental with a depth of focus of 37 km. It is tectonic in origin and the highest intensity recoreeded was VI in Manay, Davao Oriental. Due to the magnitude of the earthquake, a tsunami warning was raised at 9:12 PM, 10 October 2025, over the provinces of Surigao del Sur, Davao Oriental, and Surigao del Norte which was later cancelled at 11:12 PM the same day. Fortunately, no significant tsunami waves were observed.
