On 08 June 2026, at 7:37 AM, a magnitude 7.8 earthquake occurred in Maasim, Sarangani with a depth of 033 km and
tectonic in origin. Damage and aftershocks were expected.
The earthquake reported intensities ranging from I to VIII across regions VIII, IX, X, XI, XII, BAR, and CARAGA
Meanwhile, a tsunami warning was issued by DOST PHIVOLCS. Based on the local tsunami scenario database, it was
expected to experience wave heights of more than one meter above the normal tides and may be higher on enclosed
bays and straits. It is forecasted that the first tsunami waves will arrive between 07:37 AM, 08 June 2026 to 09:37 AM, 08
June 2026 (PST). These waves may continue for hours.
