Issued on 18 May 2026 at around 4:00 PM, partly cloudy to cloudy skies with
isolated rainshowers and thunderstorms may have brought possible flash floods or
landslides during severe thunderstorms caused by Easterlies in Visayas and the rest
of Mindanao.
On the same day, the City of Davao experienced intense rainfall caused by
Easterlies which resulted in multiple incidents including river flooding, urban flooding,
landslides, creek overflow, collapsed structure, mass wasting and electrocution
incident. Several barangays were heavily affected, prompting the immediate
evacuation of residents to the designated evacuation centers and safer grounds.
The areas affected were those along the Matina River, particularly Barangays Matina
Pangi, Matina Crossing, Matina Aplaya, and Talomo Proper, where rising water
levels displaced numerous families. Urban flooding was also reported in Barangays
Maa and Buhangin, affecting residential communities and forcing the temporary
evacuation of residents.
Additional incidents included creek overflow in Brgy. Sasa, the collapse of a
perimeter wall in Brgy. Cabantian, and mass wasting incidents in Barangays Tigatto
and Magtuod. A fatal electrocution incident involving a 21-year-old male was also
reported in New San Isidro, Brgy. Buhangin.
In response, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through
its Field Office XI, is in close coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of
City of Davao, for significant updates and any requests for relief augmentation.
