Philippines, Flooding in Sarangani Province (Region XII)

On 08 March 2022, at around 5:00 PM, Heavy Rainfall was experienced in Region 12 due to the presence of a Low-Pressure Area in Mindanao. This resulted in the increase of water levels in major rivers (Pangi and Allah Rivers) that caused flooding incidents in low-lying areas in Sarangani and Sultan Kudarat Provinces in the region.

Around 4:00 PM, prolonged moderate to heavy rainfall caused massive and severe flooding to almost all barangays of the Municipality of Maitum. A total of 288 families were recorded as internally displaced and currently staying at Maitum Municipal Gymnasium.

Around 5:00 PM, Kidapawan City experienced heavy rainfall that caused runoff water to overflow from canals and creeks causing the flooding incident in Brgy. Balindog and Poblacion, a total of 32 families were affected but no evacuation transpired during the incident.

Around 6:00 PM, the Municipality of Alabel experienced heavy rainfall which brought flooding in different areas of the municipality. A total of 16 families affected was reported.

Around 8:00 PM, in the Municipality of Tboli, South Cotabato, a flooding incident occurred in most of the barangays along with Allah and Safall River due to continuous heavy rainfall brought by the LPA. A total of 17 families were affected by the incident.

On 09 March 2021, at around 8:00 AM, floodwaters has already subsided, some residents of Barangay Luma returned to their houses but some opted to stay temporarily with their relatives. A total of 27 families were displaced during the incident.

Around 7:00 PM, continuous rainfall was still experienced in some areas of region 12, that resulted in the swelling of rivers on nearby LGUs. In the Province of Sultan Kudarat, Bagumbayan and Isulan are still experiencing flooding due to continuous rainfall which increases the number of families who are forced to evacuate. In addition, another flooding incident has transpired in Lambayong, Palimbang, and Esperanza, that resulted in the evacuation of affected families living nearby Allah River. A total of 3682 affected families were reported in Sultan Kudarat.

Affected LGUs are continuously monitoring the situation in their respective AOR.

Sarangani:
- 331 families/ 923 individuals affected
- 2 totally and 1 partially damaged bridges
- 2 houses were partially damaged
- 1 Horse reported drifting by floodwaters.
