Description

A 6.5 Magnitude earthquake with 2 km depth shook Leyte. Strong shocks were felt in Tacloban, Ormoc and cities near the epicentre. A landslide also occurred in Jaro. As of 7 July, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported two deaths, 329 injured and 1,837 families/9,185 people affected in Kananga, Carigara and Ormoc cities. A total 1,765 houses and public facilities were also damaged. Lifelines, such as electricity, were also reportedly interrupted. The national and provincial agencies are leading the relief efforts. Damage assessment is being conducted so as distribution of relief goods for the victims. The cost of damage is estimated to be 1 million USD .
