The province of Masbate experienced significant climate distress due to dry spell
and elevated heat indices. Based on PAGASA Observed Heat Index, Masbate
experienced reduced rainfall, prolonged dry conditions, and extreme heat with an
average of 42°C (danger level) from April 01 to May 31, 2025, severely affecting
agricultural production in several municipalities.
From the said period, the province of Masbate experienced the effects of dry
weather, making it difficult for farmers and fishermen to work continuously due to the
reported high heat index.
In response, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), through
its Field Office (FO) V, in coordination with the Local Government Unit (LGU) of
Masbate, immediately provided family food packs (FFPs) to address the needs of the
affected families and individuals
