Description

As many as 285 housing units were reported to have suffered minor damage due to tornadoes accompanied by high intensity rain that hit three sub-districts in the city of Medan on Thursday (24/7) at 17.00 WIB. Based on a report from the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Center for Regional Disaster Management (BPBD) Medan, the disaster was triggered by the extreme weather factor which resulted in 285 housing units being slightly damaged (RR) with details in Medan Labuhan District as many as 248 houses divided in Martubung Village, Sei Mati Village, Kelurahan Tangkahan and Kelurahan Besar. Furthermore, 35 housing units were damaged in Medan Deli Subdistrict, precisely in Medan Marelan Village. Meanwhile, 2 units were slightly damaged in Medan Marelan Subdistrict to be precise in Labuha Deli Village. Until this news was released, there were no reports of casualties from the disaster. Currently the Medan City BPBD Rapid Response Team (TRC) continues to conduct rapid assessments of the impact of damage and coordinate with relevant agencies to help accelerate disaster management. Meanwhile, the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) released an early warning of bad weather that could potentially heavy rain accompanied by lightning and strong winds from September 26 to September 28, 2020 in a number of regions in Indonesia. Some of these areas include Aceh, North Sumatra, West Sumatra, Riau, Bengkulu, South Sumatra, Bangka Belitung Islands, Lampung, Banten, West Java, DKI Jakarta, Central Java, West Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, East Kalimantan, Gorontalo. , Central Sulawesi, North Maluku, Maluku, West Papua and Papua. With this early warning, the public is advised to always be aware of potential hydrometeorological hazards such as strong winds, tornadoes, floods, flash floods and landslides.
