Description
Soputan's firelight was recorded in 26 August 2012, at 12:33 GMT by the observation post. By this, its status was increased from Alert (level II) to Standby (level III).
At 17.50 GMT, Soputan erupted with smoke that reached 5,000 meters from the peak. The smoke and ash blown into the North. Soputan's elevation is 1784 meters above sea level.
Recommendations were give to the public to remain calm and no need to evacuate for the residents who lived in radius of 6.5 km. Nevertheless, they were encouraged not to have activity within 6 km radius from the peak. The Center for Volcanology and Geological Hazard Mitigation (PVMBG) will continuously observe and update the status of Soputan mountain.
