Ibu Volcano Activity in Halmahera Barat, North Maluku
OVERVIEW: Following recent activity of Ibu Volcano, PVMBG elevated the status of Ibu Volcano Alert Level to Alert Level IV. The eruption columns from Ibu volcano tend to reach heights of about 5,000 m from the summit crater, while incandescent lava ejection has extended to a radius of 1.5 km (0.93 miles) from the crater rim.

PREPAREDNESS AND RESPONSE:
- BPBD Halmahera Barat is already on-site and has implemented an emergency alert status (Siaga Darurat). They have also distributed additional logistics in the form of masks to the affected community.
- BPBD Halmahera Barat is conducting the evacuation of the affected community.
- The alert level of Ibu Volcano will be periodically evaluated by PVMBG.
- Based on the public release from PVMBG on 17 May at 0011 at 0630 HRS UTC+7, PVMBG advise individuals to refrain from entering the area within a 4 km radius and 7 km northern sector from the volcano’s crate
