Description

Heavy rainfall showering Samarinda city from 21 March 2018 have caused flooding. Field report suggested that flood depth was around 50 cm. The hardest hit area was Loa Janan Ilir area, which serve as the strategic point between Samarinda and Balikpapan city. Samarinda city disaster management agency (BPBD) reported 9300 people have been affected due to the flooding. Accordingly, Mayor of Samarinda city has declared emergency status effective for the city for two weeks period and will expedited the disbursement of emergency fund. BPBD Samarinda city and Indonesian Police have assisted the affected population. The last time Samarinda city experienced flooding at this level was dated back in 1993.
