Philippines, M5.9 Earhquake in Bukidnon

A magnitude 5.9 earthquake struck Bukidnon Province, Mindanao island, the Philippines on Monday, 18 November 2019 at 20:22 (UTC+7). The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported that the earthquake’s epicenter has a depth of 5 km, and was located on 7.66°N,124.89°E (8 km Northwest of Kadingilan, Bukidnon).

According to PHIVOLCS, several municipalities namely Kadingilan, Kalilangan, Don Carlos, Kitaotao, and San Fernando, in Bukindon province, endured with intensity VI or strong shaking. While several other areas experienced weak to moderate shaking as reported below:
Intensity V - Damulog, Talakag and Valencia City, Bukidnon; Midsayap, Cotabato; Kidapawan City; Marawi City. Intensity IV- Impasugong and Malaybalay, Bukidnon; Malungon, Sarangani; Antipas, Cotabato, Rosario, Agusan Del Sur; Cotabato City; Davao City; Koronadal City; Cagayan De Oro City. Intensity III - Malitbog, Bukidnon; Tupi, South Cotabato; Manticao, Misamis Oriental; Tubod and Bacolod, Lanao Del Norte; Alabel, Sarangani; Gingoog City; Pagadian City; Iligan City. Intensity II - Polomolok, Lake Sebu and Tampakan, South Cotabato; Kiamba, Sarangani; Mambajao, Camiguin; Sindangan and Polanco, Zamboanga Del Norte; Molave, Zamboanga Del Sur; Dipolog City; General Santos City.

The Philippine’s National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) has released an advisory on the earthquake information to several regions through facsimile, SMS, and website for further dissemination to their respective local DMO from the provincial down to the municipal levels. While PHIVOLCS advised the public to be cautious and prepare as damages and aftershocks are expected. The earthquake have caused panic in several municipalities, cities and villages as there were reports of shaking of houses and establishments

According to the Pacific Disaster Center (PDC) The total population exposed from this event is estimated to reach up to 1.1 million people in 100-km radius, of which 64% adults.
