Heavy rain between 16 and 18 December caused flooding in several southern provinces of Thailand, including Nakhon Si Thammarat, where local media report that one person died and one is missing.

Disaster officials reported that flooding and heavy rain has affected 377 villages across 17 districts in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province.

Soldiers and rescue workers carried out evacuations in Muang district. Schools have been closed in affected areas.

Local media reported that one person died when he was swept away by flood water in Cha-uat district and an elderly man is still missing after floods in Ron Phibun district.

Elsewhere in the south, flooding was reported in Don Sak, Tha Chang, Chaiya, and Kanchanadit districts in Surat Thani, and Khuan Khanun district in Phattalung Province.

Some areas close to the Golok River in Su-Ngai Kolok municipality, Narathiwat Province, were also flooded.

No further heavy rain was reported in the area after 18 December. As of 19 December flooding had started to subside in many of the affected areas, according to the country’s disaster officials.
