At least 28 houses and 1 mosque in Alas Malang village, Singojuruh sub-district, Banyuwangi district were affected and submerged by mud after the flash flood that occurred on Tuesday (15/5) night.

8 houses were severely damaged by floods carrying mud and tree trunks. Allegedly caused heavy rain in the slopes of Mount Raung and cause water mixed with mud pushed into the home residents.

Head of the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) Banyuwangi, Dawn Atmosphere said, the cause of overflow of water mixed with mud and large logs caused by the blockage of Badeng bridge culvert.

"8 houses were severely damaged, 20 houses were damaged due to floods accompanied by mud, 1 mosque submerged in mud," said Fajar, Wednesday (05/16/2010).

To avoid the flood of aftershocks, BPBD officers together with the community with one heavy equipment managed to normalize the river Badeng River and raised logs and other materials that had closed the culvert of the bridge.

"Since last night all work units (units of work, red) related directly normalize the flow of Badeng River, and to clean the road we get the help of fire trucks," he explained.

One of the residents of Alas Malang Village Sudibyo, said he was surprised by the incident. Because, during this time there has never been a mud flood.

"There was once a flood of the 1970s but not as big as last night," he said.
