Abstact :
Sitting on the Pacific Ring of Fire, the Indonesian island of Sumatra is a hot spot for geohazards. A large fault known as the Sumatran Fault, which has generated many large historical earthquakes, runs the entire length of the island. The Sunda megathrust located off the island's western coast has produced five great earthquakes in the past decade.
