Description

A tropical depression that brought heavy rain in Vietnam from 8 to around 15 October 2017 have caused landslides and floods in several provinces in northern and central part areas of the country. Some parts of the country have recorded up to 599 mm of rain in 3 days, such as in Thanh Hoa Province. Vietnam‘ Central Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control (CCNDP) recorded death of 72 people with 40 missing and 21 injuries. As of 12 Octoebr 2017, the CCNDP reported that 16,740 houses have been flooded, with over 200 houses collapsed and 1,059 houses severely damaged. In one of the affected provinces, Hoa Binh, the total loss due to the flood was estimated at around 1.63 trillion VND (nearly 72 million US$).
