Disaster authorities in Vietnam report that 3 people have died after heavy rain caused flooding and landslides in Thua Thien Hue, Quang Tri and Quang Nam provinces in the North Central Coast Region from 02 December 2022.
One fatality was reported in Phu Loc district in Thua Thien Hue on 02 December. Two other people were reported missing at the same time. The bodies of those missing were found on 04 December. As many as 2,860 houses were flooded in the district.
Flooding was also reported in Quang Nam province where one house was completely destroyed and 28 hectares of crops were damaged.
Landslides also caused damage and blocked roads in Quang Tri, Thua Thien Hue and Quang Nam.
Unusual floods occurred in the area of Phu Loc district (Thua Thien Hue province) leaving one person missing, hundreds of houses flooded; Highway 1 through the district is divided, traffic jam for many hours. According to people's reports, the incident happened at about 13:40 pm on December 2, in the area of residential group 8 - Phu Loc town, near Khe Thi bridge, bordering Loc Tri commune (Phu Loc district). At that time, a man while moving near the Khe Thi river area (which flows through Loc Tri commune and Phu Loc town) was swept away by floods
Mr. Tran Thanh Tan - Vice Chairman of Loc Tri Commune People's Committee, said that heavy rain flooded nearly 100 meters of National Highway 1 through the commune, causing traffic jams lasting many hours.
The whole commune has more than 800 households flooded, many roads through Hoa Mau, Cao Doi villages and some villages were divided due to floods, causing inundation about 0.4 meters deep. Since noon on the same day, more than 1,200 students from kindergarten to junior high school in Loc Tri commune had to miss school due to floods. More than 100 households in the whole commune had to evacuate on the spot.
