Philippines, Storms and Winds in Regions II and V (TC CHAMPI)

On 20 October 2026 at around 11:00 AM, Super Typhoon (STY) “Rosal” entered the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) as it moved west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea. Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 was raised over several areas in Northern and Southern Luzon due to the expected strong winds associated with the tropical cyclone and the prevailing northeasterly windflow. The Department of Science and Technology – Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (DOST-PAGASA) also warned of possible heavy rainfall, strong to gale-force wind gusts, and hazardous sea conditions in several parts of the country. On 20 October 2026 at around 11:00 PM, STY “Rosal” further intensified, with maximum sustained winds of 215 km/h and gustiness of up to 265 km/h, as it continued moving west-northwestward over the Philippine Sea east of Northern Luzon. On 21 October 2026, STY “Rosal” continued moving west-northwestward before gradually shifting northwestward. The DOST-PAGASA maintained warnings for strong winds and potentially hazardous sea conditions in several areas, particularly in Northern Luzon and the eastern seaboards of the country. On 22 October 2026, STY “Rosal” began to weaken as it moved northwestward over the Philippine Sea, east of Batanes. Despite the weakening trend, DOST-PAGASA continued to warn of strong winds, heavy rainfall, and rough to very rough seas in several areas of the country. On 23 October 2026, Typhoon (TY) “Rosal” continued moving north-northwestward over the sea east of Taiwan. On 24 October 2026 at around 11:00 AM, TY “Rosal” exited the PAR. In response, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), closely coordinated with the affected Local Government Units (LGUs) to monitor the situation and ensure the provision of necessary assistance to the affected population. Meanwhile, DSWD Field Office (FO) II had already provided assistance to address the immediate needs of the affected families, while DSWD FO V continues to coordinate closely with the affected LGUs regarding any requests for additional relief augmentationAdditionally, the DSWD ensured the protection of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) through Camp Coordination and Camp Management (CCCM) and dedicated IDP Protection mechanisms, while continuously working with affected LGUs to support response and recovery efforts.
