Thailand, Flooding in Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Nan, Sukhothai, Khon Kaen, and Narathiwat

During the period of 3–7 September 2026, flooding occurred in 8 provinces (Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Nan, Sukhothai, Khon Kaen, and Narathiwat), affecting 11 districts, 14 sub-districts, and 16 villages. A total of 334 households (1,049 people) were affected; there were no injuries or fatalities.
Currently, the situation persists in 2 provinces (Chiang Mai and Sukhothai), covering 2 districts, 3 sub-districts, and 3 villages, as follows:
1) Chiang Mai Province: On 7 September 2026, heavy rain caused water accumulation in 1 district, 2 sub-districts, and 2 villages. Specifically, in Mueang Chiang Mai District, water accumulated on the road surfaces of Loi Kroh Road, Wualai Road, Chang Klan Road, and Bunrueangrit Road. Damage assessment is ongoing; there are no injuries or fatalities. The Chiang Mai Provincial Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), district officials, police, local administrative organizations (LAOs), civil defense volunteers (OrPorPor), general volunteers, foundations, and relevant agencies have mobilized to assess damage, provide assistance, facilitate traffic, move belongings to higher ground, and accelerate water drainage. Water levels are currently receding.

2) Sukhothai Province: On 7 September 2026 at 20:00 hrs, heavy rain caused runoff to flood areas in 1 district, 1 sub-district, and 1 village—specifically Ban Tuek Sub-district, Si Satchanalai District. A total of 300 households (942 people) have been affected; there have been no injuries or fatalities. The Sukhothai Provincial Office of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation, district authorities, police, local administrative organizations, civil defense volunteers, and foundations—along with other relevant agencies—have inspected the damage, assisted in moving belongings to higher ground, and worked to accelerate water drainage from the area. Water levels have currently receded.
