Description

The drought crisis in Khon Kaen has dried up many natural water resources, especially those from which water is used in making tap water. Several villages in Khon Kaen provinces of Thailand were affected This event has caused the following impacts: 251 families or 2000 people affected Local administrative and national agencies provided necessary relief efforts In the meantime, despite of storms effects in several parts of Thailand, Mr. Chatchai Promlert, the DDPM Director-General, said that from last October until now, 41 provinces have been declared disaster zones. These include: 13 Northern provinces: Uttaradit, Sukhothai, Phrae, Tak, Nan, Phayao, Phitsanulok, Nakhon Sawan, Phichit, Mae Hong Son, Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, and Lam Phun 9 Northeastern provinces: Buri Ram, Khon Kaen, Srisaket, Chaiyaphum, Mahasarakham, Kalasin, Nong Bua Lam Phu, Surin, and Nakhon Ratchasima 5 Central provinces: Singburi, Chainat, Suphanburi, Kanchanaburi 7 Eastern provinces: Chachoengsao, Chantaburi, Prachinburi, Trat, Chonburi, Samut Prakarn, and Sakaeo. 7 Southern provinces: Trang, Satul, Krabi, Surat Thani, Nakorn Sri Thammarat, Chumporn, and Pattani. Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has instructed the department to speed up assistance to residents in drought-hit areas and dole out new measures, which include more effective water management and a toughened ban on off-season rice harvest.
