Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds have destroyed homes and crops in at least three North Cotabato towns over the weekend, officials said Monday, 1 March 2021 Alamada Mayor Jesus Sacdalan said the affected families, numbering 150, have been given relief goods and emergency assistance. “We could not determine as of now the total damage wrought by the calamity as the assessment is still going on,” he said. The agricultural North Cotabato town of Tulunan has been placed under a state of calamity after recent strong winds and heavy downpour destroyed some PHP184-million worth of crops. Close to 3,000 hectares of rice and cornfields and small banana plantations have been affected by the recurring weather disturbances, the mayor said.
