Philippines, Widespread flooding affected Cotabato City

Heavy downpours over the last few days has made the rivers to overflow that consequently caused widespread flooding in Cotabato City, Soccsksargen Region. The report of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council mentioned that 24 of 37 barangays were inundated. As of July 21, a total of 18,684 families or 91,537 people have been affected by flood. In the effort to assist the victims, the city authority deployed health workers and distributed relief items. Advisory was also issued for the people living in the flood prone area for potential flooding and evacuation if necessary. As of 27 July 2017, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported that the incident has caused 1 death and 6 injured. A total of 88,105 families or 444,096 people were reportedly affected with 1,092 families evacuated in 8 evacuation centres. About 11 houses were also damaged.
