Description

Per DOST-PAGASA El Niño Advisory dated 9 June 2026, the indicators confirm that El Niño conditions are currentlypresent in the tropical Pacific. In May 2026, the observed relative sea surface temperature anomaly indicated a warmingtrend consistent with El Niño development.El Niño increases the likelihood of below-normal rainfall conditions, which may result in adverse impacts such as dryspells and droughts in some areas of the country. However, over the western part of the country, above-normal rainfallconditions during the Southwest monsoon season may also occur.On 23 September 2026, DOST-PAGASA issued a press release on the forecasted "Very Strong" El Nino based onmodels and evaluations. the phenomenon is expected to intensify into a Very Strong El Niño between theSeptember–December 2026 season and persist through the first half of 2027.
