Myanmar, Flooding in Ayeyarwady Region

Relevant ministries, technical experts, military personnel, firefighters, civil society organizations (CSOs), and charitable organizations are working collaboratively in day and night shifts to control the situation and repair the breached sections of the embankment. Embankment repair works are currently underway.

During this 2026 monsoon season, Myanmar experienced flooding in addition to persistent heavy rainfall.

A total of 188 temporary flood evacuation camps were set-up across 58 townships in Kachin, Kayin, Chin, Mon, and Shan States, Sagaing, Tanintharyi, Magway, and Yangon Regions,
with the national government providing to the 158,030 affected people MMK 1,104.413 million in financial and in-kind assistance. Currently, the temporary relief camps located in Kachin, Sagaing, Bago, Magway, Mandalay, and Yangon have already been closed. Agricultural land was inundated during this monsoon season: over 90K acres of farmland—including paddy fields, nurseries, and seeded fields.

Heavy rainfall and riverbank erosion on the night of 30 July caused a breach in the Ngawun River embankment in Laymyethna Township, Ayeyawady Region, resulting in flooding in five urban wards, major roads in the town and 150 surrounding villages. The flood information are as follows.

- Affected Houses - 10.4 K

- Affected Households - 10.5 K

- Affected Population - 46.3 K

(b) The distribution of Humanitarian Assistance for the affected people has been initiated.
