Strong winds destroyed more than 1,100 houses in Hinthada District in Ayeyarwady region during four days this month, according to the figures from the General Administration Department. From April 23 to 26, strong winds destroyed around 130 houses and blew roofs off around 1,040 houses in 158 villages. Apart from Myanaung Township in Hinthada District, Zalun, Hinthada, Lemyethna, Ingapu and Kyankhin Townships suffered the disaster. Of five townships, Zalun Township faced the severest disaster with the collapse of more than 60 houses. In Ingapu Township, strong winds blew roofs off more than 490 houses. Ba Htoo Tint, acting district officer of Hinthada District Disaster Management Department said: “In April, more than 4,700 houses were damaged by strong winds for the first time. The district office, regional office, MPs and officials distributed relief aid to victims. We give Ks 200,000 for the collapse of a wooden house and Ks 100,000 for a bamboo house. We provide assistance to victims based on the extent of damages.”
