After severe flooding in Peninsular Malaysia since late November, flooding has now affected parts East Malaysia.
Disaster authorities reported that, as of 11 December, 377 people had evacuated their homes in Beaufort and Membakut in Sabah State in the north of the island of Borneo.
The Padas and Membakut rivers are both above danger levels. State capital, Kota Kinabalu, recorded 134.4mm of rain in 24 hours to 10 December. Parts of the neighbouring state of Sarwak have also seen heavy rain, including the city of Miri which recorded 71.8mm of rain in 24 hours to 10 December and 138.6mm the previous day.
