Extreme weather observed in West Aceh Regency, Aceh Province, on Friday (17 October) at 17:50 local time. The event began with heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds, which caused waterlogging in public areas and toppled trees along several roads.
The affected areas included eight villages (“gampong”) across two sub-districts — Suak Ribee, Suak Indrapuri, Pasir, Gampa, and Seunebok in Johan Pahlawan Sub-district; and Peunaga Paya, Ranto Panjang Timur, and Ujong Tanoh Darat in Meureubo Sub-district.
A total of 113 households, or 376 people, were affected by the disaster. Fortunately, no fatalities were reported. The joint response team immediately carried out emergency actions, including clearing fallen trees and evacuating residents affected by collapsed utility poles.
As of Saturday (18 October), joint teams remain on standby to monitor the affected locations and conduct follow-up response efforts. In addition, BPBD has established public kitchens at two sites to support affected residents, while data collection by the joint team is still ongoing.
